June 23, 2009

This is a blog entry I hoped to never have to write. After 74 days of fighting, Mark let go of life today at 11:55 A.M. CST. He went peacefully, with his loved ones by his side. We all miss Mark already more than words can ever express, but take peace in knowing he is now free of pain. And we are grateful to have had those extra weeks with him.
To Dr Guy, the nurses, therapists, and medical staff, words cannot express how grateful we are for all that you've done for Mark. You are all very special people, and we will always have a special place in our hearts for you. Many of you became like family to us over the last 10 weeks. We will never forget any of you.
You fought hard Mark. Very hard. You're marathon is over now, and we are all so proud of you. We will see you again one day. We love you, Mark!

  3. I was saddened to hear of Mark's passing yesterday. He's been such a warrior and fighter these past few months. Although I did not know Mark personally, as a good friend of my cousin Sam, the small group Bible study we are a part of here in WI has been praying for him and his family. May God bless you in this difficult time.

  6. To Mark's Family,
    I know Mark found a good fight and kept the faith, I am so sorry for your loss.I live across the street and have come to love this family, As onlookes and caregivers we don't have the words to say but we know a heavenly Father and comforter that comes and wipes our tears and gives us the coursage to go on. I am just a phone call away. When the times get rough remember Psalms 23, The Lord is your shephard and you shall not want.

  8. Joy and I were holding Mark's hand as he peacefully left to go meet his Lord. I have watched him fight a VERY hard battle theses last weeks of his life. He was a strong , wonderful person and he will be missed by all who love him.

    Thanks to all the WONDERFUL people that work in the burn unit at Vanderbilt hospital, and especially to Dr.Guy and the nurses that attended to Mark. You will never know how much we appreciate your loving concern for the people in your care. As far as I'm concerned your the best.

  9. Safely Home
    by Unknown

    I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
    Oh, so happy and so bright!
    There is perfect joy and beauty
    In this everlasting light.

    All the pain and grief is over,
    Every restless tossing passed;
    I am now at peace forever,
    Safely home in Heaven at last.

    Did you wonder I so calmly
    Trod the valley of the shade?
    Oh! but Jesus' arm to lean on,
    Could I have one doubt or dread?

    Then you must not grieve so sorely,
    For I love you dearly still;
    Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
    Pray to trust our Father's Will.

    There is work still waiting for you,
    So you must not idly stand;
    Do it now, while life remaineth--
    You shall rest in Jesus' land.

    When that work is all completed,
    He will gently call you Home;
    Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
    Oh, the joy to see you come!

    May these words comfort all of us knowing we will meet again!!

  12. This was the posting I never wanted to read. Kim your strength is phenominal! My prayers are with you and the entire family. He was a great friend and study partner, and will live on through those who love him in the best parts of all of us.

  13. I can not believe I am reading this. I have known Mark since elementary school. I had no idea any of this was happening until today. Mark called my husband this winter with tickets to a football game. I can't remember what it was we were already committed to on that day but I will never forgive myself for not getting together with him. Amy, we never got to meet you but Mark loved you very much. The world has lost a kind and gentle soul.

  14. Tonight when you look up
    Do not not think of them as stars
    But porch lights leading Mark home.

    Kim, you have been a pillar of strength. We are so proud to call you our daughter. Mark is at peace now. He knew you fought every step/minute/second with him. We love you and are so proud of you, more than words can say.

    Mark, we will see you again. How we miss you already. Happy Birthday, sweet boy.

  16. Mark,
    It's been two years since you raged against the dying of the light. You've been in my thoughts each time I taste a particularly good IPA, when I help a neighbor with a project, stand around a burn barrel, and when I think about what takes to be a good friend. You are missed today and always.
    Cheers,
    Sam
